A married woman realizes how unhappy her marriage really is, and that her life needs to go in a different direction. After a painful divorce, she takes off on a round-the-world journey to "find herself"
BUT! This blog has nothing to do with this movie! (~_~) It's a MUST SEE! So go watch it!
I was just thinking how "Eat.Pray.Love." summarizes my Nigerian culture so well. I went to a wedding recently and the themes that stood out was, PRAYING before the ceremony started (and throughout the ceremony), eating all types of Nigerian delicacies, and loving "on" each other. Every Nigerian knows how important prayer is in our culture; doesn't matter if you are a Christian or Muslim. Prayer usually precedes the beginning of a ceremony (church service, baby naming ceremony, weddings, parties, etc.) and almost always ends a ceremony. We are so strong-willed in our faith! That may explains the low rate of Nigerians that attend Counseling or Psychological Services...we tend to turn to God instead. But, that's topic for another Blog!
EAT! We loooooove to eat! I mean, whatever get-together we may be having, there is always a variety of food! I have been to weddings where food kept coming in....literally till the whole thing was over. I think that just adds to the festivity of the occasion.
I love my culture!
There are some customs that I could do without, but I always look forward to going to a Nigerian event. You know there will be Prayer, good music, good food, reunions, sooo much LOVE, and more Prayers!
